First opened in the year 1956, Hotel am Stephansplatz closed for extensive renovation and redesigning in 2004/5. This major project was completed within the remarkably short period of 299 days.

The renovation work was carried out in compliance with exacting instructions to ensure quality enhancement. The owners - the hotel is a family business - were not prepared to accept compromise solutions.

Following the conversion of the attic storey and the new renovation of the guestroom storeys the hotel now boasts 56 air-conditioned guest rooms with a total of 114 beds in the higher four-star category.

Also completely new and designed in contemporary style are the entrance hall, reception, bar >ara_gall<, breakfast rooms, meeting room >matteo< and small wellness.

Indeed, the reconstruction of the interior is fully in keeping with the new design of the external appearance of the hotel. Three bay-windows open onto St. Stephen's cathedral; a prism mounted on the eaves of the hotel building is illuminated at night as an architectonic message of welcome to guests from throughout the world.
